Iranian female photographer is named a nominee for World Press Photo, the world’s most prestigious photojournalism contest.
Fereshteh Eslahi, an Iranian documentary photographer, was selected as a nominee in the category of Sports for a number of pictures within a story dubbed “Thoughts of Flight” which depicts the life of Saeed Ramin, a former practitioner of parkour.
Ramin is a professional traceur. He injured the spinal cord in his neck when he fell in a parkour competition seven years ago.
Back then, Saeed could only blink, and doctors said he wouldn’t even be able to sit in a wheelchair.
But he regained more of his abilities after he improvised rehabilitation equipment in his yard, and is now able to manage a wheelchair.
The winners of the photography competition, which is held by the Netherlands-based World Press Photo Foundation, will be declared on April 15 at an online awards ceremony.
Since 2014, Eslahi has been working as a photojournalist with various news agencies in Iran.
In 2017, She became a member of the Iranian Press Photographers Association.
